Problem Solving

Problem Solving – Let’s just be clear…when it comes to raising our children there will always be problems. These problems can manifest themselves at home, for example, two parents who want what’s best for their children but have different perspectives on how this can be achieved. Sometimes we can see it within our extended family, for example, a grandparent who may be skeptical or resistant to new parenting techniques. But often it can happen with our childcare provider, another key person in our family life who we trust every day to do what is best for our most precious and vulnerable loved ones. They say it takes a village to raise a child, what they forgot was that not everyone in the village is always singing off the same hymn sheet!

Whenever I was running a meeting into a complaint, parents regularly started the meeting by stating their overall satisfaction with the service and the carers who had the day-to-day responsibility for looking after their child. Concerns were specific, relating to one or two minor incidents, and were straightforward to resolve to everyone’s satisfaction.

Therefore I was often surprised by how swiftly parents turned to solicitors to resolve potentially minor issues. Listening to parents and discussing their problems at an in-depth and personal level I was able to gain insight into this quick call to drastic action; there was simply nowhere else for parents to turn to for clear, impartial information. There was no objective, third-party support that parents could trust and rely on with their concerns. Without this they moved directly to litigation, sometimes damaging the relationship with their childcare provider in the process.

One of the key ways Penguin can help parents is by supporting them to make the best decision for them when choosing a provider. While many providers have standard policies and procedures, Penguin has the expertise and knowledge to identify what these policies will mean for the day to day care of your child and to discuss whether or not these approaches are in line with your parenting values and goals.

If you are currently with a provider and experiencing issues that you are struggling to resolve Penguin will work collaboratively with you and your provider to find a conflict-free solution to these challenges.
